Why use Inkjet Refill Kits instead of buying a new ink cartridge?
Inkjet refill kits are a great way to save money and get more use out of a printer cartridge. An inkjet refill kit allows you to refill your existing ink cartridges with fresh ink. This process of refilling your cartridge can be done more than once. Not having to run to the store and buy a new black or color ink cartridge every time you need a new one is a great time saver.
When the ink runs dry for your printer most people buy a replacement for the used ink cartridge. New cartridges can cost a small fortune. A savvy buyer can look to a do-it-yourself inkjet refill kit to save some money. An added benefit besides saving some coin is you are decreasing the amount of waste being dumped into landfills each year helping the environment just by recycling a used ink cartridge.
Inkjet refill kits come with a syringe, bottles of printer ink for multiple refills, air balance plugs and detailed instructions. The syringe is used to inject fresh ink directly back into your cartridge. This can be done in several different ways depending on the cartridge manufacture. Some ink cartridges are easier to refill than others. Every inkjet cartridge has a hole in it where the syringe will be used to inject the ink into. The air balance plugs are used to form a tight seal over the refill hole although they are removable for later refills.
Before attempting to refill an ink cartridge always read the instructions carefully. Mishandling the ink cartridge can cause a lot of trouble and possibly damage the cartridge and printer. If you follow the instructions then refilling an ink cartridge is not that difficult.
If you have never refilled an ink cartridge before then here are some helpful tips.
- Refilling a cartridge can be messy so work over a sink.
- Wear old clothes when working. You don’t want to mess up your good shirt.
There are two types of inkjet refill kits: black and color. Refilling a black cartridge is a lot easier than refilling a color one since you only have to deal with one color. With a color ink cartridge you have to be sure not to mix up the different colors when attempting to refill the cartridge. Each color requires a separate injector unlike the normal black ink.
A standard printer cartridge can be refilled between 7 and 10 times. After refilling a cartridge the maximum number of times it must be discarded to prevent leakage and potential damage to your printer.
There are six types of printer cartridges.
- Sponge-filled cartridges. These are the most common and consist of a plastic box with an internal sponge. To refill these cartridges all you have to do is get the ink to saturate the sponge.
- Vacuum retained cartridges. These are harder to refill and most commonly made by Hewlett-Packard.
- Uni-color cartridges. These have only one chamber.
- Multi-color cartridges. These have multiple chambers with each chamber holding a different color of ink.
- Reservoir cartridges. The only contain an ink reservoir and can be refilled many times.
- Combination reservoir/printhead cartridges. These contain both an ink reservoir and have a printhead built into the cartridge.
Inkjet refill kits are developed by third-party vendors to meet the specific requirements of different brands and models of printers.
